POWDER SPRINGS YOUTH BASKETBALL

FORMAT AND RULES

BEGINNING OF GAME:
- COIN FLIP WILL DECIDE WHO GETS THE BALL 1ST.
- COED: 8 FT GOAL | 8U: 9 FT GOAL | 10U & UP: 10 FT GOAL
- A TEAM MUST HAVE AT LEAST 2 PLAYERS PRESENT TO START.


TIME:
- ALL GAMES FOR ALL AGE GROUPS WILL CONSISTS OF THREE (3) 5-MINUTE
PERIODS. THE CLOCK WILL NOT STOP DURING THESE PERIODS. THE
CLOCK WILL ONLY STOP DURING A TIMEOUT OR SERIOUS INJURY.
- IN THE CASE OF AN INJURY, THE PLAYER MUST BE ASSISTED OFF THE
COURT AND A SUB MUST ENTER THE GAME IMMEDIATELY.
- WE DO NOT PLAY TO A SPECIFIC SCORE. WINNER IS DETERMINED BY WHO
HAS THE MOST POINTS AT THE END OF THE THIRD PERIOD. IF THE SCORE IS
TIED, A 1-MINUTE OVERTIME WILL BE PLAYED. IF THE SCORE IS STILL
TIED, THE GAME WILL END IN A TIE.

TIMEOUTS:
- EACH TEAM GETS TWO (2) 30-SECOND TIMEOUTS PER GAME.

SCORING:
- EACH BASKET MADE INSIDE THE 3 POINT LINE = 1 PT
- EACH BASKET MADE OUTSIDE OF THE 3 POINT LINE = 2 PTS
- MADE FREE THROWS = 1 PT

FOULS:
- IF A PLAYER IS FOULED IN THE ACT OF SHOOTING INSIDE THE 3 POINT
LINE, HE/SHE GETS 1 FREE THROW.
- IF A PLAYER IS OUTSIDE OF THE 3 POINT LINE, HE/SHE GETS 2 FREE
THROWS.
- IF A PLAYER IS FOULED ON THE FLOOR, HIS/HER TEAM TAKES THE BALL
OUT AT THE TOP.
- THE 7TH, 8TH, & 9TH TEAM FOUL WILL RESULT IN 2 FREE THROWS. THE 10TH
TEAM FOUL AND BEYOND WILL RESULT IN 2 FREE THROWS PLUS
POSSESSION OF THE BALL.
- PLAYERS CANNOT FOUL OUT.
- A PLAYER CAN BE EJECTED FOR GETTING 2
TECHNICAL/FLAGRANT/UNSPORTSMANLIKE FOULS.
- TECHNICAL/FLAGRANT/UNSPORTSMANLIKE FOULS WILL RESULT IN 2
FREE THROWS AND POSSESSION OF THE BALL.

HOW THE BALL IS PLAYED:
- FOLLOWING A MADE FIELD GOAL OR FREE THROW, THE OPPOSING TEAM
MUST DRIBBLE OR PASS THE BALL OUT BEYOND THE 3 PT LINE.
- THE TEAM CLEARING THE BALL DOES NOT HAVE TO CHECK THE BALL OR
PASS IT IN. ONCE THE BALL IS DRIBBLED OR PASSED BEYOND THE 3 PT
LINE, THE OFFENSIVE TEAM CAN ATTACK.
- IF THE OFFENSIVE TEAM REBOUNDS THE BALL, THEY CAN SHOOT AGAIN
WITHOUT CLEARING THE BALL BYOND THE 3 PT LINE.
- IF THE DEFENSIVE TEAM REBOUNDS THE BALL, THEY MUST DRIBBLE OR
PASS THE BALL BEYOND THE 3 PT LINE BEFORE THEY CAN ATTACK (EVEN
ON AIR BALLS AND SHOTS THAT ONLY HIT BACKBOARD).
- IF THE DEFENSIVE TEAM BLOCKS A SHOT OR STEALS THE BALL, THEY
STILL MUST CLEAR THE BALL BEYOND THE 3 PT LINE.

STALLING:
- TEAMS MUST ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO SCORE. A WARNING WILL BE GIVEN
FOR THE 1ST ATTEMPT TO STALL. ON THE 2ND ATTEMPT, THE DEFENSIVE
TEAM WILL GET 1 FREE THROW AND THE BALL.
- THE REFEREE MAY INSTITUTE A TWENTY (20) SECOND SHOT CLOCK AT ANYTIME
AFTER A TEAM HAS BEEN ISSUED A STALLING WARNING. FAILURE TO
SHOOT WITHIN 20 SECONDS WILL RESULT IN A TECHNICAL FOUL, 1 SHOT,
AND POSSESSION FOR THE DEFENSIVE TEAM.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
- IN COED AND 8U, EACH PLAYER MUST PLAY AT LEAST 1 UNINTERRUPTED
PERIOD IN THE 1ST OR 2ND PERIOD AND TOUCH THE COURT AT SOME
OTHER POINT IN EACH GAME.
- IN THE 10U AGE GROUP AND UP, EACH PLAYER MUST PLAY AT LEAST 1
FULL UNINTERRUPTED PERIOD IN THE 1ST OR 2ND PERIOD.
- SUBSTITUTIONS CAN TAKE PLACE DURING ANY DEAD BALL OR BEFORE A
FREE THROW.
- PLAYERS MUST ENTER NEAR THE TOP OF THE KEY AREA
- PLAYERS DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT AT THE TABLE FOR THE REFEREE TO
CALL THEM IN.
